Public procurement in modern organizations plays a strategic role to achieve organizational efficiencies, compliance, risk management, accessibility, transparency, accountability, and trust. The field is constantly evolving and often times misunderstood. In this class, instructors will explore current trends in public procurement, discuss essential skills for public procurement professionals, and identify strategies that all governments can take to create a more strategic procurement function that aligns with current expectations. Specific focus will be on the role of procurement in establishing an approach for p-cards, cooperative procurement policies, supplier diversity and outreach, use of artificial intelligence in contract management, procurement considerations for disaster management and business continuity, and outsourcing.
