Highlights of the 2026 Governmental GAAP Update
- GASB 103, Financial Reporting Model Improvements, gave us the most significant changes to the financial reporting model in 25 years, and some surprises! We’ll share lessons learned from the first wave of implementations and will clear up confusion caused by changes in proprietary funds
- GASB 104, Disclosures of Certain Capital Assets, made big changes in our capital asset note disclosures and is effective at the same time as – and has been overshadowed by – GASB 103. Make sure you know how what is required!
- The 2025 update to GASB’s Comprehensive Implementation Guide (CIG) provided guidance on a wide assortment of recent hot-button topics including leases, accounting changes and error corrections, compensated absences and plenty on GASB 103.
- Next up are implementations of GASB 105, Subsequent Events, and a 2026 update to the CIG just on the contentious topic of subsidies as redefined in GASB 103, both of which will be discussed in depth!
- Featured discussions will include recurring favorites such as an annual audit update, a look at common errors seen in submissions to GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award program, and a look ahead at what GASB is working for the future.
